Speed test tips

Only properly performed Internet speed measurement allows you to get reliable results.
We suggest how to perform an accurate speedtest in four easy steps.

1) Start with a reboot

Reboot the modem and router and the device on which you will be performing the test. The modem and router work together to provide network access to computers, laptops, smartphones, tablets, TVs, and other devices throughout your household or business.

As with all electronic or digital devices, over time the quality of performance may decrease due to various factors. When this happens, the Internet "lags," pages load very slowly, and videos cannot be played smoothly. A reboot is virtually always the first step when a technical problem arises on an electronic or digital device. Restarting the modem or router often proves sufficient to restore full performance, which also affects speedtest.

You should also restart the device on which you intend to take the measurement before starting the test. If you skip this step, you will most likely have to come back to it later to get reliable and accurate test results.

2) Do not use the Internet

Do not access the Internet on any device connected to the network during the test. On the device you are testing from, close all open windows and tabs and turn off background applications.

Disconnect smartphones and tablets connected to your home Wi-Fi by turning on Airplane Mode. Don't forget about the smart TV, because it may turn out that in the next room someone is watching a series on Netflix. Don't download any files while testing your connection speed.

3) Clear cache

Each time you start testing your Internet speed, you should clear your browser's cache. This is important because the operation of most link speed tests is based on downloading and uploading one or more files of a certain size and using the time those files take to calculate the speed of the Internet.

If you run the test several times in a row, the results may be corrupted by files that already exist (are cached) on your device. You can avoid this problem by choosing a tool that uses a more modern technique (e.g. Fasttester.com). Then you don't have to clear the cache.

4) Choose a good speedtest

Choosing a good Internet speed testing tool is of great importance for the accuracy and reliability of the results. Currently the recommended solution is a test based on HTML5, not Flash technology. Most tests using Flash and provided by ISPs need to be adjusted - by up to 40%. Remember that as of 2021, Flash is no longer supported. It received its last security update in December 2020. Do not install the plug-in on new devices.

We recommend choosing an HTML5 web speedtest, such as Fasttester.com.
